Job Swap

23rd Mar 2010

On Tuesday 23rd March 2010, Jalpa Patel and I went to work at Yew Trees as a Care Support Worker for the day.

We were both apprehensive as had never experienced this kind of work before. We arrived at Yew Trees just before 7am and had a hand over period with the night staff and were shown around the Unit. I was left in charge of getting the breakfast ready for the clients, which was a very busy start, so shortly made me forget any apprehension I had. After breakfast, we played board games in groups and got to know the clients. We then helped the female clients do their make-up and painted their nails, which was really enjoyable.

After the lunch period, we went into the garden for a group “sports relief” activity session. We were dressed up as mummies, covered in toilet tissue, then I was dressed as a “hula girl” and Jalpa as a “Pirate”! Everyone really enjoyed themselves.

All the staff at Yew Trees were excellent with the clients and extremely hard working. They were all very helpful towards Jalpa and I and we had a great day. I would definitely do it all again and would highly recommend doing this to anyone else who thinks it would be beneficial for their job role, or just to see what it is like. Doing the job swap has given me a great insight to what goes on at our Units.

Once again, thank you to Beverly and the team at Yew Trees for making us feel welcome and helping us through the day.

Nicola Horrell - Myneth Agency

On Tuesday 23rd March 2010, Nicola and I set off for our first EVER day as a CSW. Not knowing what the day would bring!

We arrived at Yew trees just before 7am ready for the handover from the night shift. I was then set the task of waking up the clients and getting them ready for breakfast! Nicola had the pleasure of wearing a nice blue hair net and apron! The morning consisted of various activities to engage the clients participation. We then decided to open our own beauty parlour for nails and make up.

After lunch Nicola and I were invited to our very own St Luke’s mini Sports relief. I never thought that being dressed up as a pirate and then being covered in toilet roll like a mummy would be so much fun. Walking away from this experience is a huge eye-opener. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and would encourage other members of staff to do the same. Hats off to all the staff that work closely with the clients.

Thank you to all the staff and clients at yew Trees for a fantastic day. I enjoyed every minute of it!
