A Magical and Productive Day Spent at
Knightsbridge House
St. George & The Dragon
On Friday 23rd April I travelled to Knightsbridge House to have a meeting with the Unit Administrator Heather, a very productive day, thank you Heather.
It soon became evident that I could not have visited KBH on a better day, not only was it a beautiful sunny Spring day but it was St. George’s Day, one of the clients, had suggested that they should celebrate the day with a garden party and everybody was busy preparing for the afternoon.
I arrived just after 10am and was warmly welcomed to the unit by Heather, Michelle and several other members of the team, it was lovely to be able to put a face to the names.
We quickly settled down to work on the Spreadsheets, which were the purpose of my trip down to the south coast. I met several members of staff during the morning and there was a very evident buzz of excitement about what was going on. Talk of bunting, posters, crowns, flags, cupcakes, face painting, music, dragons and St. George, the excitement was so infectious.
The staff and clients were working as a Party Planning team, I was invited to join in the festivities before leaving to drive back home.
The garden was decorated with bunting and a drawing of St. George and the Dragon on the wall, bunting and tinsel were strung across the garden and posters made by the clients adorned the fence. Clients and staff were having a wonderful time, a game of Table Tennis was in progress along side a game of Connect 4, (the biggest Connect 4 I have ever seen!)various other lawn games were being played and the swing was in constant use, while music played in the background.
Clients were dressed for the occasion, several wearing crowns that had been made in the days leading up to the party, and several red & white tinsel wigs were in evidence.
St. George’s flags were being waved, these had also been made by the clients and the flag was also adorning several faces as face-painting.
A client made my day by displaying his agility with numbers, dates and calculations when he declared to one and all that given my birth date he calculated what age I would be in August and that I certainly did not look it, a friend for life!
It was then time for the buffet, x had prepared the menu and all clients had made the cupcakes which were iced in white and red St. George’s crosses.
Time flew by and before I knew it I had to leave, how I wished that I could have spent more time with this delightful group of people, clients and staff alike – thank you for a truly magical day.
