Yew Trees

Yew Trees is an Independent Low Secure Hospital Unit providing a complex care environment for the assessment and treatment of patients who have learning disabilities and mental health needs.

The unit admits both male and female patients between the ages of 18 and 65 and can take those detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. Longer-term rehabilitation beds are available, as are assessment and treatment beds.

Yew Trees has provision for educational sessions to take place in a classroom on-site.  The grounds serve as an outdoor venue for a number of teambuilding and social skills training sessions. Leisure activities are also encouraged and provided for.

Yew Trees offers literacy and numeracy teaching, arts and crafts, cycling, basketball and a wide range of other in-house and community activities.

Yew Trees is a two-storey building with eleven individual bedrooms with en suite facilities. There are two lounges, a conservatory and a dining area that accesses a recreation room and the kitchen via a servery.

A detached administrative block, comprising reception area, manager’s office and a conference room, is situated to the side of the building. Accommodation is on the ground and first floor, served by a hydraulic lift and two staircases.

There is a large garden to the rear of the building and ample car parking space to the front.

Admissions criteria

Yew Trees admits males and females aged 18-65 with a diagnosis of learning disability or brain injury, who may also suffer from mental illness, personality disorder or challenging behaviour.

In addition, patients may require highly specialised treatment and care, possibly for extended periods of time. Some of our patients have a forensic history, and may or may not be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (sections 2,3,37,37/41).
