Oak House

Oak House is a modern Low Secure Hospital Unit aimed at providing a therapeutic environment for clients with mental health needs.

The unit is located on St. Luke’s site in Ebbw Vale, South Wales. It is in the heart of the valley, with the town centre a very short distance away, and as such patients are encouraged to visit regularly.  Accessing the local town compounds their learning experiences in a very practical setting and works in harmony with in-house programmes designed to improve and build upon social skills.

The Ebbw Vale site has an OT block that houses a music studio, workshop/art/craft area, sports massage suite and social club area. There are also three large training kitchens, a sensory room and a fitness suite.

Oak House offers a range of activities, including music lessons, social events, sensory sessions and community skills development.

Oak House is laid out over two floors with twelve individual bedrooms with en suite facilities. Other facilities include a number of lounge areas, activity rooms and treatment rooms. For the convenience of patients, there is a large secure garden to the rear of the building.

Admissions criteria

Oak House admits males and females aged 18-65 with a diagnosis of learning disability or brain injury, who may also suffer from mental illness, personality disorder or challenging behaviour.

Clinical team

Therapy is delivered by a multidisciplinary team including: consultant psychiatrist, associate specialist psychiatrist, registered nurses, psychologist, occupational therapist and social workers. Programmes are individually tailored and focused on assessment followed by treatment and intensive rehabilitation.
