Knightsbridge House

Knightsbridge House is an Independent Low Secure Hospital Unit providing a complex care environment for the assessment and treatment of clients who have learning disabilities and mental health needs.

Knightsbridge House is just five minutes walk from Fareham town centre, allowing patients to visit the local community and gain a wealth of skills in a practical setting supported by staff. Patients are encouraged to visit the town centre regularly to enable them to build upon their community living skills, and to embrace community integration. Communications are good, with major transport routes nearby. Knightsbridge House is eight miles from Portsmouth and twelve from Southampton.

The therapy programme at Knightsbridge House includes literacy and numeracy, arts and crafts, IT training, cycling, social events, horticulture, community integration and more.

The unit admits both male and female patients between the ages of 18 and 65, who may be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 or on an informal basis. Longer-term rehabilitation beds and assessment and treatment beds are available.

Knightsbridge House is a three-storey building with nine individual bedrooms with en-suite facilities. There is also a separate bathroom/toilet area for patients on the ground floor for those who prefer a bath rather than a shower.

Other in-house facilities include kitchen, dining room, lounge, activities room, treatment room and meeting room.

Admissions criteria

Knightsbridge House admits males and females aged 18-65 with a diagnosis of learning disability or brain injury, who may also suffer from mental illness, personality disorder or challenging behaviour.

In addition, patients may require highly specialised treatment and care, possibly for extended periods of time. Some of our patients have a forensic history, and may or may not be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (sections 2,3,37,37/41).

Clinical team

Therapy is delivered by a multidisciplinary team including: consultant psychiatrist, associate specialist psychiatrist, registered nurses, psychologist, occupational therapist and social workers. Programmes are individually tailored and focused on assessment followed by treatment and intensive rehabilitation.
