Bostall House is an Independent Low Secure Hospital Unit providing a complex care environment for the assessment and treatment of patients who have learning disabilities and mental health needs.
The unit admits male patients between the ages of 18 and 65 and can take people detained under the Mental Health Act 1983. Longer-term rehabilitation beds can also be provided.
Bostall House is set in seven acres of land close to Bostall Heath, a beautiful landscape with breathtaking views. It is located in the Abbey Wood area of South East London about half a mile north of East Wickham, two miles east of Woolwich and two miles north of Welling and Bexleyheath.
Patients are encouraged and supported to engage in a number of community-based programmes that enable them to experience the ‘hustle and bustle’ of a big city. In doing so, they are able to gain a number of social skills and use them in a practical setting. The unit’s quiet, rural location allows patients to carry out activities in a relaxed and calm environment.
In-house activities include horticulture, literacy and numeracy, IT, team sports and a wide range of other pastimes, as well as wide and varied community programme.
Bostall House is a three-storey building with six individual bedrooms with en suite facilities and an elevator that serves all the floors. There are two lounges, a dining area and an activities room.
Bostall House admits males aged 18-65 with a diagnosis of learning disability or brain injury, who may also suffer from mental illness, personality disorder or challenging behaviour.
In addition, patients may require highly specialised treatment and care, possibly for extended periods of time. Some of our patients have a forensic history, and may or may not be detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (sections 2,3,37,37/41).
Therapy is delivered by a multidisciplinary team including: consultant psychiatrist, associate specialist psychiatrist, registered nurses, psychologist, occupational therapist and social workers. Programmes are individually tailored and focused on assessment followed by treatment and intensive rehabilitation.
