Our approach to treatment

We believe that mental health and learning issues can only be addressed in the context of the welfare of the whole individual. As such, each St. Luke’s patient has a personally tailored care plan devised by a range of professionals that may include Consultant Psychiatrists, middle grade psychiatrists, psychologists, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, activity co-ordinators, social workers, representatives of advocate groups, speech and language therapists and teachers.

Treatment and rehabilitation care plans are evidence-based and include a wide variety of validated psychosocial, occupational and leisure activities.

In our hospitals, multidisciplinary clinical rounds are held once a week according to a scheduled rota. Full records are kept to facilitate communication with referring authorities.

Psychiatry

The psychiatric team are trained in medical, social and psychological models of causation and management of mental illness. We have both middle grade and consultant psychiatrists. Each patient has their own nominated and highly experienced consultant psychiatrist who is responsible for leading the multidisciplinary team and who has overall responsibility for that patient's care.

Psychology

Using various interventions such as behavioural treatment, CBT and psychodynamic therapies, the psychology team works closely with patients and their families to encourage the development of problem solving skills, promote self-esteem and to equip our patients with the right skills to manage their anger, offending behaviour and other inappropriate behaviours.

Nursing team

St. Luke’s employs RNMH, RNLD and RMN qualified nurses. A high staff-to-patient ratio ensures close support and effective therapeutic alliance.

Other therapists

Our multidisciplinary team of therapists works closely with patients to develop their social, educational, occupational and adaptive skills.
